  5. HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver that supplements 
  6. the online help.

  27. NOTE:   The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver works 
  28.     with Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

  31. Upgrading from a Previous Driver
  32. --------------------------------
  33. For Windows 3.1 users upgrading from HP's PrintSmart for Windows 
  34. Printer Driver Version 7.0 in a non-US version, UNINSTALL this 
  35. version if you encounter a system error while installing disk 2 
  36. of Version 7.0a. Refer to the section on UnInstalling 
  37. HP's PrintSmart for Windows.
  38.  
  39. For Windows 95 users upgrading from the HP DeskJet 310, 320 drivers 
  40. shipped with Windows 95 or HP's PrintSmart for Windows Driver 
  41. Version 7.0 in a non-US version, delete the previously installed 
  42. printer icons from the printers folder, then use "ADD PRINTERS" as 
  43. described in the section Installing through the Control Panel. 
  44. Do not use the "New Driver" option in the Printer Properties 
  45. dialog to perform the upgrade.

  48. Installing through the Control Panel
  49. ------------------------------------
  50. The HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver cannot be installed 
  51. through the Control Panel for Windows 3.1. Use the "setup.exe" 
  52. program on the disk that came with your printer (from the Program 
  53. Manager, select File, Run..., then type a:\setup).
  54.  
  55. To install this printing system on Windows 95, go to the Control 
  56. Panel, select "Add Printers". Follow the instructions on the 
  57. computer screen to complete the installation.

  60. Installing the DJPMenu
  61. ----------------------
  62. To run DJPMenu, run INSTALL.BAT from the printer 
  63. software Installation Disk (type a:, then type install.bat),
  64. then type c:\deskjet\djpmenu.

  67. UnInstalling HP's PrintSmart for Windows
  68. ----------------------------------------
  69. For Windows 3.1 users, run "setup /u" from the disk that came 
  70. with your printer (from the program manager, select File, Run...
  71. then type a:\setup /u).
  72.  
  73. For Windows 95 users, delete the printer from the Printers folder. 
  74. You may also wish to remove the "HP DeskJet 300 Series" or 
  75. "HP DeskJet 400 Series" program group from your Programs menu.

  79. 2. Printing with the Infrared Adapter (DeskJet 340 only)
  80. ================================================================
  81. In order to print to the HP DeskJet 340 Printer using the Infrared
  82. Adapter, you must have IrDA-compliant software with printing 
  83. feature installed on your system. If you do not have this software, 
  84. contact your notebook PC manufacturer.
  85.  
  86. Select the port that is configured for infrared printing on your
  87. system. If your system provides both an LPT port and a COM port 
  88. for infrared printing, then select the COM port.
  89.  
  90. For Windows 95 users, use the Windows 95 infrared driver from 
  91. Microsoft. Select the COM port described as "Virtual Infrared 
  92. COM Port".

  96. 3. Problems With Specific Software Programs
  97. ===============================================================
  98. At the time HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver was 
  99. released, the following known software program limitations existed:
  100.  
  101. Corel Draw 5.0 (Corel)
  102. ----------------------
  103. Scanned-in images are printed out as composite black pictures. 
  104. To resolve this, double click on HPWCNFIG.EXE in the Windows 
  105. system directory and turn off Jumbo Technology.
  106.  
  107. Excel 4.0 (Microsoft)
  108. ---------------------
  109. After cancelling a print job, an error message may be displayed. 
  110. Click OK to return to the software program. This is fixed in
  111. version 5.0.
  112.  
  113. Some paths to the driver dialogs do not work correctly and settings
  114. are not retained. Use the following path to reach a printer setup
  115. that works:
  116.  
  117.   For version 4.0: File, Page Setup, Printer Setup, Setup
  118.   For version 5.0: File, Page Setup, Options
  119.   This is fixed in version 7.0.
  120.  
  121. Documents formatted for printers other than HP DeskJet printers may 
  122. shrink when printed. Changing print settings has no effect. 
  123. This is fixed in version 5.0.
  124.  
  125. Freelance 2.x (Lotus)
  126. ---------------------
  127. Doing a gradient fill pattern within a non-rectangular object (for
  128. example, a triangle) will print incorrectly. If you must do this,
  129. then disable "Rectangle Capability" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  130. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in the windows system directory.
  131.  
  132. Pagemaker 5.0 (Adobe)
  133. ---------------------
  134. With the Print Manager turned off in Windows 95, or in Windows 3.1,
  135. if an error message appears during printing, then exit PageMaker
  136. after the print job is complete to correctly restore the display.
  137.  
  138. Color pattern fills do not always print with the correct pattern.
  139.  
  140. Some documents created in PageMaker 4.0 may not print correctly in
  141. PageMaker 5.0.
  142.  
  143. PowerPoint 4.0 (Microsoft)
  144. --------------------------

  150. PowerPoint 7.0 (Microsoft)
  151. --------------------------
  152. Print jobs are not shown in the spooler. To cancel a job, go to 
  153. the DeskJet Status Monitor.
  154.  
  155. Printshop Deluxe 1.0 (Broderbund)
  156. ---------------------------------
  157. Objects that go outside the print region are clipped. The program
  158. does not provide a means of adjusting the bottom margin of the 
  159. document to fit within the limits of the printer driver's margin 
  160. settings. This problem is fixed in version 2.0.
  161.  
  162. If a paper size other than Letter is selected in the printer driver
  163. when a document is sent to print, a message may display asking the
  164. user to select either Portrait or Landscape orientation. The 
  165. selection has no effect on how the document is printed.
  166.  
  167. Publisher 1.0 (Microsoft)
  168. -------------------------
  169. You cannot change the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer Driver 
  170. settings from Microsoft Publisher 1.0. You must change them through 
  171. the Control Panel.
  172.  
  173. If you are printing cards and images do not print, check the 
  174. "MS Publisher" checkbox in the HPWCNFIG.EXE program.
  175. This program is located in the windows system directory.
  176.  
  177. Publisher 2.0 (Microsoft)
  178. -------------------------
  179. Information at the bottom of a page may be clipped. Increase the
  180. bottom margin of your page. See the user's guide for print region
  181. specifications.
  182.  
  183. Word For Windows, Versions 6.0 and earlier (Microsoft)
  184. ------------------------------------------------------
  185. Edges of italic characters may be clipped in version 2.0. 
  186. This problem is fixed in version 6.0.
  187.  
  188. If the 'copies' setting is changed in the ColorSmart dialog box for
  189. a document, the change will not happen for that print job, however,
  190. the change will happen when the next document is sent to print. This
  191. problem is fixed in version 7.0.
  192.  
  193. When printing to a file, the path and filename must be shorter than 
  194. 30 characters. Otherwise, the file that is created will be empty.
  195.  
  196. WordPerfect 6.0 (Novell Corporation)
  197. ------------------------------------
  198. WordPerfect reads the minimum print margins only when it is first
  199. started. These margins are determined by the paper size and 
  200. orientation settings in the driver. If you are unable to set the 
  201. margins to the minimum values for the printer, exit WordPerfect and 
  202. make sure that the correct paper size and orientation settings are 
  203. set in the driver through the Windows Control Panel. Then restart 
  204. WordPerfect. This problem has been fixed in version 6.0a. Contact 
  205. WordPerfect for upgrade information.
  206.  
  207. Works 2.0A, 3.0, 3.1 (Microsoft)
  208. --------------------------------
  209. Charts print incorrectly when the Automatic ColorSmart option is
  210. selected.
  211.  
  212. Write 3.1 (Microsoft)
  213. ---------------------
  214. When printing envelopes, the left and right margins are switched
  215. with each other. If clipping occurs when printing envelopes, 
  216. switch the left and right margin settings.
  217.  
  218. Microsoft Plus! (Microsoft)
  219. ---------------------------
  220. Selecting a pop-up menu during printing may cause the message 
  221. "Printer Not Responding" to appear intermittently. This happens
  222. if the Menu Popup sound event is enabled using Microsoft Plus!. 
  223. To resolve this, disable this sound event in the Control Panel.

  227. 4. Other Known Problems
  228. ===============================================================
  229.  
  230. DOS Printing
  231. ------------
  232. If you encounter problems printing from a DOS box, check that 
  233. "Virtual Memory" is enabled in the Control Panel. If the problem 
  234. persists,then disable "DOS Spooling" from the HPWCNFIG.EXE program. 
  235. HPWCNFIG.EXE is in the windows system directory.
  236.  
  237. DOS Redirection in Windows 95
  238. -----------------------------
  239. Upon installation of the driver in Windows 95, redirection of DOS 
  240. box printing is not activated. To enable DOS box printing 
  241. redirection, an immediate reboot of the system is recommended.
  242.  
  243. Point-n-Print Feature
  244. -----------------------
  245. The point-n-print feature will work the first time you use it 
  246. after installing the driver but may get deactivated. It is 
  247. recommended that you reboot the computer system at least once 
  248. after installation for this feature to be fully implemented. 
  249.  
  250. Windows 95 Spooler
  251. ------------------
  252. The default Spool data format is 'EMF'. If you select 'RAW', this 
  253. is equivalent to disabling spooling. The HP's PrintSmart for 
  254. Windows Printer Driver cannot spool RAW data.
  255.  
  256. The page progress for print jobs shown in the spooler always
  257. indicates the current printing page as 0. However, the correct 
  258. page number is displayed in the DeskJet Status Monitor, and the 
  259. jobs will still print as normal.
  260.  
  261. Windows for Workgroups Network Printing
  262. ---------------------------------------
  263. Sharing printers from a Windows for Workgroups machine is not
  264. supported. (This is NOT a network printer.)If you must do this, 
  265. then ensure that the server machine is not being used for printing 
  266. while network jobs are being sent to the printer. This limitation 
  267. does not exist with Windows 95.
  268.  
  269. Windows 95 Friendly Printer Names
  270. ---------------------------------
  271. To install more than one friendly printer name for a single 
  272. printer, select Add Printer, and when asked to select a printer, 
  273. click on 'HP'. Then scroll to the bottom of the 'Printers' list 
  274. to locate the printer.

  278. 5. Print Regions and Margins
  279. ================================================================
  280. The minimum top margin using the HP's PrintSmart for Windows Printer
  281. Driver is 1/3 inch. The bottom margin for the HP DeskJet 340 Printer 
  282. is 1/2 inch and that for the HP DeskJet 400 Printer is 2/3 inch.

  284. Note: The printable area on a page using the HP DeskJet printer
  285. software differs from the printable area allowed by DOS software
  286. programs.
